I Loved You At Your Darkest

Happy Tuesday my loves…

Why would you love a person? We may have different reasons but mostly we love because we find goodness in others. But who would love us at our darkest?

Roman 5:8

This is my verse for today. Isn’t it amazing that God loved us even while we were still sinners? He loved us at our darkest times. He pulled us up from the depth of our sins.

It is easy to love someone who loves us back. But being buried in sin means that we don’t love God. This only means that even when we still haven’t loved Him yet, He already has his eyes of love on us.

Although we are Christians, we are not perfect. I bet no one can stand up and profess to be perfect except Him who has clothed Himself in full humanity but yet without sin. Once in a while, deliberately or not, we still grieve God. We still commit sin. Sad but true. We may not even notice it at times but we do things that are not pleasing to Him. What I am trying to say here is that even if you feel the guilt of sin, don’t you ever think that God doesn’t love you. He loves you and He cares for you. In spite of all our failures and darkness, He sees us with eyes of grace and love.

This verse is my source of comfort. One song from the Black Eyed Peas asks “Where Is The Love?”. Sometimes we feel that there is no more love left in this world.  Sometimes we feel that it is us against the world. There are also times when situations seem to be unfair. When these things happen, when the enemy attacks us with this kind of self pity emotion, always turn back to Romans 5:8. Even while we were sinners, Christ died for us. That is how much He loves you and me. He doesn’t care about our past or our future sins. The blood He shed has cleansed us from all sin – yes, even the future ones we are about to commit. Although we must remember that this doesn’t give us any license to sin.

I hope you feel God’s love always. He has a special way of making us feel His love. We just need to be more discerning.

May your day be filled with an awesome love!

Gloomy Saturday

Happy Saturday my loves…

Normally Saturday is like a breath of fresh air for me. It spells freedom from a week of going back and forth to the school to drop off and pick up my son. It spells rest from an everyday review of homework and advanced lessons. This is the day to enjoy the outside world. But today is different. It is a gloomy day and my baby and I are stuck in the house.

We woke up quite early today which is really surprising considering the fact that we slept late. Hot coffee kept me from being pulled back to bed. Coffee and good conversation with my family is a good way to start the day. We planned on watching a movie while eating breakfast but we were not able to do so because I was too lazy to turn on the television and my laptop. I don’t have a DVD player so what I do is connect my laptop to the TV using an HDMI cable. My laptop has a DVD player so this set up works well for me.

And then we all went to get our gadgets and we each find a corner where we can play. I know this is not a healthy activity but bear with me as today is extra gloomy and I just want to relax a bit. My son used the iPad so I used my iPod. I would usually play “Frozen Free Fall” but because I have already finished all levels, I have downloaded new games. I only have 2 games on my iPod and I believe this is enough.

One is the SF Tycoon World Tour. This is like a food service game wherein you run your own street food cart. The products depend on the country you are in. The first stop is Asia and it is really funny because my customers are the celebrities here in the Philippines. What makes it even funnier is that they are buying street foods that I don’t even eat like “Betamax” which is a block of pig’s blood and “Kikiam” which is like a rolled meat loaf wrapped in pig intestines I think.

Anyway, here are some snapshots of the game. It is developed by kuyimobile.

My other game is called “The Voice’. It is just like the show. There is an option for a camera while you sing the song. This is a good thing because you can record yourself and it is just like recording a music video. There are 4 judges that you have to impress so that they’ll turn their chair. The measure of the score depends on how well your tempo and pitch are. Every time you finish a song, you will be given coins which you can use to buy more songs. So far, my favourite is “All of Me'” by John Legend.

But let me tell you that I only played for an hour. So I really don’t think it is that bad, right? And it’s Saturday anyway, right? Do I sound like I am defending myself? LOL

Anywhere, there goes my Saturday my loves. The rest of the day will be spent working. Enjoy your weekend my loves and remember:

Ecclesiastes 8:15

So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people to do in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them.

I Am Made New

Happy Friday my loves…

Last Wednesday night, we had our discipleship training here at our home and our topic was 2 Corinthians 5:17 which says: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! This means that our sinful nature has died and a new us is born. From being slaves to sin, we become children of God.

This verse strikes me hard on the heart. It got me thinking, just how new am I?

God changed my life

I hate to speak for myself as some of you may not agree with me but personally, I have noticed a lot of positive changes in me since God has looked upon me with favour and grace and has gladly accepted me as one of His children. It would be better I think if this observation comes from other people because then I will know how changed I am. This is the fairest measure of the changes in me.

I have always been known as the loud one. I thank the Lord that somehow He has started taming my tongue. I am not saying I can fully control what comes out of my mouth but little by little I have learned to stop when I know that someone might get hurt by my words. I am still on the process of change but it is a great thing that I have already started the journey. Og Mandino once said, the journey to a thousand miles begins with the first step. I am past the first step already and I thank God for it.

I am not always the obedient one. I do things that I like to do even if I go against what other people say to me. But lately, I have learned to be obedient. I know that this is not an overnight change but I am glad that my heart and mind can already discern what’s best to do. There are times that obeying seems to be the hardest thing to do but then the Bible reminds us that obedience is better than sacrifice so no matter how hard it may seem, we should learn to obey. And by obedience here, I mean obeying God.

Being a new person in Christ means having a renewed mind. We can’t say that we are changed when we still think the same way. There should be a renewal of our minds to make way for the transformation. We are transformed. We are new. I really love the word “transform” because it means that God has made us new. We were not just “reformed” but “transformed”. Isn’t it great that God did not just corrected our faults but He actually removed our old selves and gave us new ones. I am just truly in awe.

What a great verse this is. This is something that gives me hope and inspiration to continue striving for greater change.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Envy – A Thief Of Happiness

Happy Tuesday my loves…

Some people say that it is normal to be envious of what other people have but I don’t think so. I believe that envy is the root of all sin. After all, it is the reason why the enemy has fallen out of heaven. It is also the reason why Eve had to take a bite from the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Envy will rob us of our happiness. If we constantly envy what other people have, we will not have any time to appreciate what we have. We will not feel contentment for what we have. We will always compare ourselves with other people. Trust me…it’s not easy to always compete. Sooner or later, you will get tired and still you haven’t won.

We can never have everything that we want. People seem to have known every word in the dictionary except for one: contentment. When we were students we always dream of getting a job. When we did, we wanted a better job. Then we aimed for a better paying job. We got a car but we still want the new model of car that our neighbour has. There is simply no contentment. We keep on getting more and more yet we still want more. The more we have, the more we become in want.

Contentment – this is the opposite of envy. This the only way to avoid being envious and start being appreciative of what we already have. Remember that when you don’t have something that you want, it only means that you don’t need it. Sometimes we feel we need something when in fact we actually don’t. What God has given you is sufficient for you. He will never leave you wanting.

My challenge for all of us is to count our blessings. Appreciate what God has given us. Live life in all its beauty. Enjoy what we have. Look at what other people have only if our intention is to be happy for them and not be envious of them. Then we will all be happy.

And remember this always:

Philippians 4:11-12 ESV

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.

How To Keep Safe During Typhoon – Lessons Learned

Happy Tuesday my loves…

I don’t if you have heard from the news but Philippines was hit by a typhoon again just this week. Our place – Albay – was one of the badly affected areas. Although this is not something new for us as we are bombarded by typhoons all throughout the year, there are still a lot things that I learned from this latest catastrophic experience.

Typhoon in the Philippines

I am one of the moms out there who likes to overprepare. So when the news of the impending typhoon came out, I headed out to the shops to secure some basic supplies – food, torch, and water. My husband was able to buy this really cool solar powered torch which can charge different gadgets. It came with a USB with at least 8 different kinds of chargers connected to it. It paid off that it was so hot the day after the typhoon – we were able to charge the torch.

The reason why I prepare is that I want to keep my family as safe and comfortable as possible throughout the duration of the typhoon and right after it. If you have experienced typhoon before, you will understand the discomfort and difficulty of the aftermath. Just after this typhoon Glenda which made a landfall on Albay last Tuesday, there was no power and water supply, no shops open, no water refilling stations, and no ATM. It was a total disaster. Talk about discomfort.

So how do we keep ourselves and our family safe before, during, and after a typhoon? Here are some useful tips:

1. Stay at home or wherever you are. Refrain from going outside because no matter how strong you think you are, you just can’t tell what’s going to happen. During the typhoon, the wind was so strong that window glasses on houses and buildings shattered. There are also a lot of falling debris from houses. It really isn’t safe.

2. Although it did not flood last Tuesday, you should always be prepared for the worst. All important things, documents, and appliances should be placed on elevated areas to prevent them from being wet. If electronic items were flooded, don’t use them right away. Make sure to have a electrician check them first.

3. Water is very important. The day after the typhoon, there was no water supply. So as much as possible, stock up on water. It’s better to over than under prepare right?

4. Stay in a safe room in the house. Our house has plenty of glass windows and it was a terrifying night when the strong wind started to blow. It was as if the windows will break. So we all stayed in the bedroom where there is only one window.

And lastly, this may not be a safety tip but I think it is important to arm yourself with plenty of stories especially for kids. They can get bored easily. Remember that there will be no power supply so there will be no television to entertain the kids. I believe it is every parent’s duty to entertain the kids at this time. Good thing I have plenty of stories to tell.

Well, there you go my loves. Keep safe during a typhoon and remember this:

Psalm 107:29

He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.
