Our Little Angel At 12 Weeks

Our little bubba is now 12 weeks and 3 days old. How fast time flies! We have to wait until the 20th week to know the gender but we are praying it will be a baby girl. Everyone we know hopes for a baby girl too. I can never be more excited.

Last time we went for my prenatal checkup, my OB tried to listen to the baby’s heartbeat using the doppler but we can’t hear it. She said it was probably too early to detect the heartbeat so she did a quick pelvic ultrasound just to make sure that the baby is okay and is alive. The baby was sleeping so we can’t really see any movement. My OB tried to prod my abdomen gently and the baby moved a little. What a relief to find out it’s okay.

According to Babycenter.com, at this age, the baby is already the size of a lime. Great improvement. Last week, it was just the size of a brussel sprout. It weighs about half an ounce and measures around a little over 2 inches. It is looking more human every week. It got reflexes now. The eyes have moved from the sides to the front of the head. The ears are now in place as well.

As for me, I am beginning to feel morning sickness. I know it’s late since I am already about to start my second trimester. I haven’t had any morning sickness during my first trimester so I must be a late bloomer! Heartburn has become more and more intense now. And talk about frequent trip to the bathroom especially early in the morning!

I have no particular craving for food but I want cold drinks always. It’s hard to pin this down to pregnancy since it is full Summer here so I am thinking I will still crave for cold drinks even if I am not pregnant.

My tummy is getting bigger now. I am running out of clothes that fit me.

My family has been nothing but very supportive and helpful at this stage. I thank the Lord for the gift of family to help me get through this exciting but scary journey.

Ways To Pacify Your Finicky Baby

It’s a thrilling experience when you hear your baby crying for the first time. But that thrill can easily be a cause of concern and frustration as weeks go by.

The best thing that you can do is to stay calm. Keep in mind that if your stress level heightens, it also increases your baby’s. Thus, by remaining calm, your baby might just follow suit.

Here are some ways to comfort your crying baby. It takes a few tries. However, with patience and practice, you’ll know what works for him and what doesn’t.

Check Diaper

A soiled diaper is one of the reasons your baby is fussy. Even if you’ve changed it recently, you may want to check it again. Before trying other calming methods, check it first and adjust it as needed.

Check Baby’s Body Temperature

Feel the baby’s neck if he’s too hot or cold. Remove or add clothes accordingly. To be sure, take his temperature using a thermometer. If he has a fever, consult his pediatrician right away.

Play a Calming sound

It can be a sound that reminds him of being inside your womb. A white noise device is a good idea. If you don’t have one, try the humming sound of an electric fan.

You may also walk him in a body carrier or rock her. Calming motions will remind your baby of the movements he felt while he was still in the womb.

Feed Your Baby

Most babies do cry when they’re hungry. Track his feeding times. Look for some signs of hunger, like he puts his fists to his mouth or lip-smacking. If he shows signs of hunger, try offering him breast milk to soothe your little one.

But don’t overfeed your baby as it can make him uncomfortable. Wait at least two hours from the beginning of one feeding to the next.

You may offer a pacifier if it’s not yet time to feed him. He may also suck his thumb or finger. Most babies will calm down by sucking.

Ease Gas Pain

If he cries after you fed him, the crying might be the result of a gas bubble. Ease the gas pain by patting his back or bending his knees to his chest. It’s also helpful if you rub his back while he lies on your lap.

Decrease External Stimulation

Some babies cry because of the many things going on in their minds. You may turn off the light or remove his toys to ease his crying. Reducing noise levels will also help him calm down.

Give Him a Bath

Warm water can offer a lot of calming benefits. In the tub, add a few drops of lavender to help further him relax. The lavender oil may also assist in easing your tension. Thus, hop in the bath tub with your little one.

On Foods And Self Image

Who doesn’t love food? But lately I’ve been scared of food because I feel like I have doubled in size the last few years. Okay, I’m exaggerating but when people see me, all they notice is how I gained weight. They didn’t even notice I recently had my eyelashes done or that I had my hair cut! Bitter ako mga ateng!

If you don’t know yet, I work from home and contrary to what other people may think of, working from home is more stressful than working in a regular workplace. Why? First, I have to work double time because my boss counts my output and not my time. Second, I have no social life. Third, I always take my work home (huh? Remember when people use to say that leave your work at the office, don’t take them home so you will not get stressed? Well, since my work is at home, how can I ****ing leave it at the office? Right?)

I love eating! It’s my stress reliever. Whenever I feel worn out, I eat. Whenever I feel stressed, I eat. Whenever I feel down, I eat. Gosh, I even eat when I’m happy. Basically I eat all the time! Jeskelerd! (Note to self: At nagreklamo ka talaga ng taba sa lagay na yan teh?)

Who can resist these?

Okay, so pano ko iiwasan ang pagtaba ngayon? Sabihin niyo nga sa akin?

Apparently, gaining weight and constantly being called out for it is not good for my self esteem. Heck, it is not good for anyone’s self esteem! But the truth is I don’t really feel offended when someone tells me I’m fat (ouch!). Actually, it is a good eye opener to start realizing how important it is to keep our body healthy. I don’t just look at weight as a measure of one’s physical appeal, I look at it as a measure of one’s health. The more I gain weight, the more I become a target for health issues.

So do I refrain from eating? Hell, no! I still eat what I want but now I am teaching myself to control a bit especially on sodas and junk foods. I tend to eat more fruits too. I may or may not lose weight by doing this but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I am starting to eat healthy and this is my first step. As Lao Tzu said, the journey to a thousand miles begins with the first step.

Some parents consider parenting teens as a challenge. But the truth is it’s not. Teens bring joy to parents’ lives. Parenting teens is actually a joyful experience. You may ask why?

Here are the reasons why:

* Teens are someone you can easily relate to. You have been a teen once in your life as well so you know what they are going through. It is easy for parents to relate to their teens’ concerns because they have already experienced what their teens have experienced.

* As long as there is open communication, you can be bestfriends with your teen child. It is amazing how many things under the sun can you talk about all day long.

* You will have a mate for life. Teens are friends who will never ever leave you. You already have a child and you have a best mate as well.

See, parenting teens is actually a joyful experience.

Christmas Countdown – For Kids Only?

When I was a kid, I always look forward to the “ber” months because they signify that the Christmas season is just around the corner. Christmas is the happiest time of the year for me. In fact, I enjoy it more than my birthday. I just feel that people are at their best during the Christmas season. Everyone seems to be trying so hard to be the nicest person in the whole planet.

As Christmas is nearly approaching, I come to realize that as we grow older, we tend to be more lax when it comes to the Christmas season. For a lot of adults I know, Christmas is just another day of the 365 days we have in a year. The excitement is no longer at its peak.

Well, this is not the case at home. My son is excited for all the gifts that he is surely going to get for Christmas. He is also excited for the food that seems to overflow during this season. More importantly, he is so excited to have the long awaited Christmas break from school. Come on, who doesn’t look forward to a long vacation? I surely did when I was a student. If you can see the excitement in my son’s eyes, you will be surprised at how such a little boy can contain that much excitement. He does the Christmas countdown every year – never fails.

But guess what? I am an adult and yet, I have the same level of excitement as my son. We don’t have the same things that we look forward to, but we’re both very excited for the Christmas season. While he is excited to receive gifts, I am excited to give him gifts. Parents can relate to me when I say that there is nothing more satisfying in this world than to see your child overflow with joy and happiness and you are part of it. While he is excited to binge, I am excited to cook. I plan my Christmas menu ahead of time. While he is excited to take a break from school, I am excited to spend time with him at home. Being a “work from home” mom, I am blessed that even though I have to work through the holidays, I still get to spend time with my son at home.

See? Christmas countdown is not just for kids. It is for everyone. It is for mommies like me too. So how many days more before Christmas? I am excited!

 

Stress Coloring For Adults

Stress is a silent killer. Overthinkers like me are very prone to stress. When I am bothered with a thought, it stays with me for a long time.

I have been hearing about stress coloring for adults. On my recent trip to Australia, I’ve been to a local bookstore and I saw the adult coloring book that I wanted but the tag price hindered me from buying. It was around $30 to $50 which I think is too much for a 50 page coloring book. 

Anyway, imagine my happiness when I saw this book from my local shop here in the Philippines.

And guess how much it is? It is way too cheap compared to its Aussie counterpart. This one is only php149 which is roughly about $5. Oh the joy of saving!

So my journey to stress coloring starts. I didn’t realize how hard it is to color the pages. There are just so many details. Here’s my first page:

  
I’m not yet done but the closer I get to seeing the finished product, the more stress free I become.

How Do You Start Your Day?

It’s Tuesday and I’d like to start this day right. A prayer in the morning before you do anything else is the best way to start the day. It’s the foolproof way to make things work right throughout the day.

Today, I cooked special scrambled egg for my little man.  He finished it before I can even take a picture of it. And for me, a cup of coffee always wakes me up. 

  
The blankets are already on the washing machine and Im set to start the day right!
