Our Little Angel At 12 Weeks

Our little bubba is now 12 weeks and 3 days old. How fast time flies! We have to wait until the 20th week to know the gender but we are praying it will be a baby girl. Everyone we know hopes for a baby girl too. I can never be more excited.

Last time we went for my prenatal checkup, my OB tried to listen to the baby’s heartbeat using the doppler but we can’t hear it. She said it was probably too early to detect the heartbeat so she did a quick pelvic ultrasound just to make sure that the baby is okay and is alive. The baby was sleeping so we can’t really see any movement. My OB tried to prod my abdomen gently and the baby moved a little. What a relief to find out it’s okay.

According to Babycenter.com, at this age, the baby is already the size of a lime. Great improvement. Last week, it was just the size of a brussel sprout. It weighs about half an ounce and measures around a little over 2 inches. It is looking more human every week. It got reflexes now. The eyes have moved from the sides to the front of the head. The ears are now in place as well.

As for me, I am beginning to feel morning sickness. I know it’s late since I am already about to start my second trimester. I haven’t had any morning sickness during my first trimester so I must be a late bloomer! Heartburn has become more and more intense now. And talk about frequent trip to the bathroom especially early in the morning!

I have no particular craving for food but I want cold drinks always. It’s hard to pin this down to pregnancy since it is full Summer here so I am thinking I will still crave for cold drinks even if I am not pregnant.

My tummy is getting bigger now. I am running out of clothes that fit me.

My family has been nothing but very supportive and helpful at this stage. I thank the Lord for the gift of family to help me get through this exciting but scary journey.

I’d Rather Have Few Friends

Love Heart Friendship Trust Feeling Eternity

Contrary to what other people may think, I don’t have a lot of friends. Yes I have quite a handful of people in my circle but I wouldn’t really consider them as my friends. Acquaintances maybe, but not friends.

Last night’s devotion with the family involved the story of Jonathan and David. In the Bible, their friendship is ideal. When Jonathan helped David escape the wrath of Saul, it was genuine friendship that urged him to. I don’t have a lot of Jonathan in my life. I know of only a few people who would go beyond their comfort zone to help me. There are a lot of people who would be happy to laugh with me but not a lot would cry with me.

As we were discussing, I told my son to choose his friends wisely. I asked him to pray for the gift of discernment so he will know who his real friends are and who are hiding behind fake smiles. There are a lot of users in this world and without the gift of discernment, it is just so easy for us to fall prey to their sweet lies.

I’d rather have a few true friends than to have heaps of fake friends. And this is what I want my son to do as well. One true friend is better than a thousand fake ones.

On Foods And Self Image

Who doesn’t love food? But lately I’ve been scared of food because I feel like I have doubled in size the last few years. Okay, I’m exaggerating but when people see me, all they notice is how I gained weight. They didn’t even notice I recently had my eyelashes done or that I had my hair cut! Bitter ako mga ateng!

If you don’t know yet, I work from home and contrary to what other people may think of, working from home is more stressful than working in a regular workplace. Why? First, I have to work double time because my boss counts my output and not my time. Second, I have no social life. Third, I always take my work home (huh? Remember when people use to say that leave your work at the office, don’t take them home so you will not get stressed? Well, since my work is at home, how can I ****ing leave it at the office? Right?)

I love eating! It’s my stress reliever. Whenever I feel worn out, I eat. Whenever I feel stressed, I eat. Whenever I feel down, I eat. Gosh, I even eat when I’m happy. Basically I eat all the time! Jeskelerd! (Note to self: At nagreklamo ka talaga ng taba sa lagay na yan teh?)

Who can resist these?

Okay, so pano ko iiwasan ang pagtaba ngayon? Sabihin niyo nga sa akin?

Apparently, gaining weight and constantly being called out for it is not good for my self esteem. Heck, it is not good for anyone’s self esteem! But the truth is I don’t really feel offended when someone tells me I’m fat (ouch!). Actually, it is a good eye opener to start realizing how important it is to keep our body healthy. I don’t just look at weight as a measure of one’s physical appeal, I look at it as a measure of one’s health. The more I gain weight, the more I become a target for health issues.

So do I refrain from eating? Hell, no! I still eat what I want but now I am teaching myself to control a bit especially on sodas and junk foods. I tend to eat more fruits too. I may or may not lose weight by doing this but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I am starting to eat healthy and this is my first step. As Lao Tzu said, the journey to a thousand miles begins with the first step.

Patient Recruitment For Clinical Trials

Recently I came across a news site that published an article about patient recruitment in clinical trials. I know you might say this is a topic that is out of my league but the article got me curious. It detailed how challenging patient recruitment for clinical trials is. So as a response, I have written an article on how to somehow help pharmaceutical companies in patient recruitment. I know they have great researchers but this is from a standpoint of a regular person. Sometimes it is good to get ideas from regular people.

In the medical field, clinical trials are highly valuable. A vital aspect of a clinical trial is the patient. The patient’s participation plays a crucial role in the success of the research. This is how important patient recruitment is in every clinical trial. However, recruiting patients for the study is not as easy as it seems.

The Challenge In Patient Recruitment For Clinical Trials

The challenge with most clinical trials is the recruitment of patients. Firstly, not a lot of people are aware of clinical trials. This is due to the fact that they are not widely advertised. Patients also don’t usually talk about their experience to others. Secondly, there are people who are curious about clinical trials but they lack information. They may want to know if they are qualified but they couldn’t get the information that they need. Thirdly, some people want to try but are scared of something they are not familiar of. Fear of the unknown can sometimes hinder them from being patients. Lastly, some patients don’t finish the trials. They quit even before the trials are completed.

Strategies In Patient Recruitment For Clinical Trials

For companies conducting these trials, here are useful strategies that you should consider employing in order to successfully recruit qualified patients who can participate:

  • There are many ways to educate potential patients. With more active people online, there is no doubt that social media is one of the most effective venue. There are many forms of social media that you can use. By creating an informative video, infographic, or short advertisement about the clinical trial that you are doing, you can raise awareness and remove doubts about clinical trials. Make sure you have a clear call to action that people can respond to. The good thing about social media is they have a very broad reach.
  • A huge help in patient recruitment is local networking. Make your project visible to the community. This will not only help your project gain recognition but it will also make people become more familiar with it. With familiarity, fear is lessened.
  • Because you need the patients until the end of the trials, retention strategies are necessary. Make the experience worthwhile for the patients. Communication plays a vital role in retaining patients. Reasonable compensation is also required.

Patient recruitment for clinical trials is significant. These strategies will help companies in the recruitment process.

Christmas Songs With Instrumental Music

Happy 16th of December my loves…

December is synonymous to Christmas. At the onset of this month, you can hear Christmas songs everywhere, be it on the radio, television, and even online. These songs make the season alive. Once you start hearing them, you will feel that it’s already Christmas.

Most Christmas songs are timeless. We hear them every year and yet we don’t get tired of them.  Some of them are even older than us yet they are still enjoyed by today’s generation. They are passed on from generations to generations. Along the way, some modifications have been added, remixes are done, and different versions are introduced but the basics of the songs and their meaning remain the same.

With the internet available for a lot of people, Christmas songs download has become an option. Many people download Christmas songs which they can play over and over again. There are Christmas songs for kids and merry Christmas songs for all ages.

There are heaps of Christmas songs available for people to enjoy this season. Christmas songs download allows you to choose from a wide variety of songs. Some are merry Christmas songs and some are sentimental Christmas songs. There are also Christmas songs with instrumental music. The latter makes Christmas songs a perfect accompaniment for different activities and projects. They can also be played on their own.

If you don’t have a list of songs to play or music to use as accompaniment for your projects this season, you may want to consider the following Christmas songs with instrumental music:

This is one of the timeless songs of the season. It is the instrumental version of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”. The dominant instruments that you can hear in the song is the percussion instrument, glockenspiel, and the string instrument, harp. The method of playing the instruments, plucking, creates a soothing yet very festive effect that makes listening to it enjoyable. It sounded close to a lullaby in terms of the tempo and beat. This makes it perfect for kids and babies.

This instrumental music comes in four different versions which are slightly different from each other. The difference is mostly on the length, sound effects, and speed of the music. Some versions are shorter and faster than others. In terms of the sound effects, version 2 has a wind sound effect and version four has sledge crash sound effect. But the basic music is the same for all the four versions. Because of the sound effects, Merry Christmas Ident is perfect for making Christmas videos or animated greeting cards. If you want to put some effort in your videos and cards, personalizing the sound effects is a good idea. Merry Christmas Ident is a good choice.

The song we are all familiar with just became even more exciting to listen to. Jingle Bell acapella features an instrumental version of the song with a female acapella part. Acapella makes any musical piece extra special because of the effect of the human voice. There is also a part in the middle of the song that features just a beat box and the voice. It makes the song even more interesting. The beat of the song is fast which makes it perfect for the jolly season.

Who is not familiar with “Deck The Halls”? As little children, we have all sang this one way or another. Perhaps on a party or the traditional carol? Until now, this song is still sang by people of all generations all over the world. This version is symphonic and involves the harmonic combination of instruments such as bells, piano, and other string instruments. The rhythm is fast and perfect for presentations. It slows down a bit on other parts of the music and then comes back to its fast rhythm. The shift in tempo and rhythm removes the boredom in the music piece.

This is another instrumental version of the famous Christmas song, Deck The Halls. This time, it has a jazzy feel to it. You can almost feel your feet move to the beat and dance the season away. With this version, you can hear the different instruments such as guitar, ukulele, drums, and vibraphone. They create a harmonious combination of music that radiates a joyful tone. It is an upbeat version that can be used as a dance sound material or a sound background for upbeat parties.

“Happy Christmas Song” is one of the very popular songs for this season. The instrumental version of the song is as positive and upbeat as the original song except without the lyrics. The tempo is fast but there is a part in the music piece that it slows down a bit then gain acceleration again after a few seconds. Bells, guitar, drums, and piano are just some of the dominant instruments that you can hear throughout the piece. The way these instruments combine is perfect to create a truly “happy” song, in the literal sense of the word. It can be used as background for presentations and season’s videos.

If you are looking for a funky music for your Christmas song or music list, the “Christmas Song” instrumental music is for you. It is a clean piece with a normal beat – not too fast and not too slow as well. It uses different musical instruments and at some point, there is a part wherein not all involved instruments are used. This musical piece is good as a background music or played on its own to keep the spirit of Christmas alive in your home or office.

Christmas songs with instrumental music are widely available online. You can easily build a list of these instrumental songs and music through Christmas songs download. Because there is a wide variety of them online, you can be sure that you will find something that will suit your needs and preferences. Whatever your project is, you will surely find a good instrumental music that will fit the theme and the purpose of your project.

Christmas Countdown – For Kids Only?

When I was a kid, I always look forward to the “ber” months because they signify that the Christmas season is just around the corner. Christmas is the happiest time of the year for me. In fact, I enjoy it more than my birthday. I just feel that people are at their best during the Christmas season. Everyone seems to be trying so hard to be the nicest person in the whole planet.

As Christmas is nearly approaching, I come to realize that as we grow older, we tend to be more lax when it comes to the Christmas season. For a lot of adults I know, Christmas is just another day of the 365 days we have in a year. The excitement is no longer at its peak.

Well, this is not the case at home. My son is excited for all the gifts that he is surely going to get for Christmas. He is also excited for the food that seems to overflow during this season. More importantly, he is so excited to have the long awaited Christmas break from school. Come on, who doesn’t look forward to a long vacation? I surely did when I was a student. If you can see the excitement in my son’s eyes, you will be surprised at how such a little boy can contain that much excitement. He does the Christmas countdown every year – never fails.

But guess what? I am an adult and yet, I have the same level of excitement as my son. We don’t have the same things that we look forward to, but we’re both very excited for the Christmas season. While he is excited to receive gifts, I am excited to give him gifts. Parents can relate to me when I say that there is nothing more satisfying in this world than to see your child overflow with joy and happiness and you are part of it. While he is excited to binge, I am excited to cook. I plan my Christmas menu ahead of time. While he is excited to take a break from school, I am excited to spend time with him at home. Being a “work from home” mom, I am blessed that even though I have to work through the holidays, I still get to spend time with my son at home.

See? Christmas countdown is not just for kids. It is for everyone. It is for mommies like me too. So how many days more before Christmas? I am excited!

Stress Coloring For Adults

Stress is a silent killer. Overthinkers like me are very prone to stress. When I am bothered with a thought, it stays with me for a long time.

I have been hearing about stress coloring for adults. On my recent trip to Australia, I’ve been to a local bookstore and I saw the adult coloring book that I wanted but the tag price hindered me from buying. It was around $30 to $50 which I think is too much for a 50 page coloring book.

Anyway, imagine my happiness when I saw this book from my local shop here in the Philippines.

And guess how much it is? It is way too cheap compared to its Aussie counterpart. This one is only php149 which is roughly about $5. Oh the joy of saving!

So my journey to stress coloring starts. I didn’t realize how hard it is to color the pages. There are just so many details. Here’s my first page:

I’m not yet done but the closer I get to seeing the finished product, the more stress free I become.

Have you tried this my loves? I strongly suggest it not only if you have extra time but also if you just want to relax in between tedious work.

The Fix Your Eyes On The Eternal

I have just finished my daily Bible reading. Today, I read in 1 John chapter 2.

I really believe that verse 17 is a good reminder for us all to fix our eyes on things that will last forever. What is the use of spending everything that we have on things that will be just be around for a while? Wouldn’t it be just a waste of time?

So what are the things that are eternal? Our soul, our salvation, and our relationship with the Lord are eternal. These are the things that we should be working on.

Of course we should still take care of our families, do our work, and enjoy fellowship with other people. But let us not forget that as we do these temporal things, we should be very careful not to ignore the eternal things. We should always set aside time for the Lord. We should not spend all our resources on the things of the world.

I hope this verse reminds you as good as it reminded me to keep my eyes fixed on the eternal.

Why Do Men Cheat?

Happy Monday my loves…

Society tells us that men are superior compared to women. But I beg to disagree. Men are weak and this is the very reason why they cheat. Come to think of it, if they are as strong as they think they are, why would they need a number of women to make them feel better about themselves? Whereas, women are strong. We don’t need other men to make us feel that we are strong – one man in our lives is enough.

Men are insecure beings. They are not contented with what they have and so they seek for more. If a man is happy with his wife and his family, there is no reason to look for anyone else. Cheating is a result of insecurity. They want to feel secured. They want to re-assure themselves that they are superior and that they can do anything they want. This gives them a false sense of security.

Given the chance, men will always grab the opportunity to cheat. This is not something that most women will take advantage of. Why do you think there are a lot of magazines and websites that promote obscenity? Because publishers know that men are not strong enough to resist looking – and in most cases, turning page after page. Apparently, one page is not enough. And no matter how hard I try to convince myself that this is part of being a man, I still firmly believe that this is already a form of cheating.

I may come across to you as a sexist but I am not. I am merely telling you what is obvious that we seem to overlook. I understand that not all men are the same. There are those who remain loyal to their wives no matter how strong the temptation may be. And I truly admire these men. I give a shout out to all men who have stood up for what they believe in and who have fought temptations to preserve the love.

And let me also correct myself for generalizing. I should have used “some men” instead of “men” for the sake of being fair. I’m sorry.

So where are all these thoughts coming from? Since it’s women’s day last Friday, I just happened to feel empathy for the plight of women who have been cheated on by their husbands. There are many articles online that we can all relate to as women. And although it may not have personally happened to us, we still can’t help but feel the sincerest empathy for these women.

And my advice? Men who cheat are not worth our love 🙂 Happy women’s day my loves 🙂
