5th Week – Pregnancy Surprise

What a surprise when I found out I was expecting last Feb 28. I had a one day spotting on February and as I realized it was already the end of the month, I was scared I might have some sort of physical illness so I planned to get checked the next day. I told my husband maybe I should do a pregnancy test first to rule out pregnancy from my reasons of missed period. We were totally not expecting pregnancy because after 14 years, who would have thought this will be a possibility?

So I took the pregnancy test almost a hundred percent sure it will be negative but to my surprise, it was positive! I was shocked and didn’t know what to say. Equally shocked was my husband, my son, and the rest of my family! I think I’m too old to still get pregnant. I am 35 and God has a surprising way of putting me on the last trip to motherhood.

So to confirm the result, we went to 2 Ob-gynes. Yes, I really wanted to make sure. I had 2 ultrasounds too which I realized may not be good for the baby but what’s done has been done. Anyway, here is the image of the ultrasound I had.img_6484

The baby is not yet visible as it is too early. On my first ultrasound, I was told that there was no baby yet, it was just the amniotic sac. The second ultrasound I had was transvaginal and I think it showed clearer result. The little white spot inside the black circle is apparently the tiny heartbeat of the baby. It was too early to actually see something.

From the ultrasound, it was determined that I am on the fifth week of pregnancy. I haven’t had any major discomfort. I feel a little sick in the morning, like I have a fever or stuffed nose but apart from that there is nothing major discomfort that I feel.

I was asked to take folic acid and hormone replacement supplement which I always forget to take. Perhaps this is one of the effects of pregnancy, I am more forgetful now.

I was also asked to drink pregnancy milk which is such a pain to take. I don’t like the taste but hey, I have to do it, right?

I don’t have any food cravings but my son was craving for pasta yesterday. Is it possible that he’s the one craving for me? I remember when I was pregnant with my son, my husband was the one craving for food and not me. It’s an old wives tale that if you walk over someone during pregnancy, that person will be the one craving and not you. I know there is no logic to it but who knows? LOL

This has all been a surprise to me and I hope to document my journey to help expectant mothers too. We can all learn from each other.

Ways To Pacify Your Finicky Baby

It’s a thrilling experience when you hear your baby crying for the first time. But that thrill can easily be a cause of concern and frustration as weeks go by.

The best thing that you can do is to stay calm. Keep in mind that if your stress level heightens, it also increases your baby’s. Thus, by remaining calm, your baby might just follow suit.

Here are some ways to comfort your crying baby. It takes a few tries. However, with patience and practice, you’ll know what works for him and what doesn’t.

Check Diaper

A soiled diaper is one of the reasons your baby is fussy. Even if you’ve changed it recently, you may want to check it again. Before trying other calming methods, check it first and adjust it as needed.

Check Baby’s Body Temperature

Feel the baby’s neck if he’s too hot or cold. Remove or add clothes accordingly. To be sure, take his temperature using a thermometer. If he has a fever, consult his pediatrician right away.

Play a Calming sound

It can be a sound that reminds him of being inside your womb. A white noise device is a good idea. If you don’t have one, try the humming sound of an electric fan.

You may also walk him in a body carrier or rock her. Calming motions will remind your baby of the movements he felt while he was still in the womb.

Feed Your Baby

Most babies do cry when they’re hungry. Track his feeding times. Look for some signs of hunger, like he puts his fists to his mouth or lip-smacking. If he shows signs of hunger, try offering him breast milk to soothe your little one.

But don’t overfeed your baby as it can make him uncomfortable. Wait at least two hours from the beginning of one feeding to the next.

You may offer a pacifier if it’s not yet time to feed him. He may also suck his thumb or finger. Most babies will calm down by sucking.

Wearing of teething necklaces by Baltic Wonder may also help. Parents find a positive change in their baby’s mood when their kids are wearing these necklaces. They seem less fussy.

Ease Gas Pain

If he cries after you fed him, the crying might be the result of a gas bubble. Ease the gas pain by patting his back or bending his knees to his chest. It’s also helpful if you rub his back while he lies on your lap.

Decrease External Stimulation

Some babies cry because of the many things going on in their minds. You may turn off the light or remove his toys to ease his crying. Reducing noise levels will also help him calm down.

Wrap Your Baby

Another way to calm him down is to wrap him tightly in a warm but soft blanket. Some babies don’t realize that the arms they see are their own so they are frightened by them. Wrapping them may help ease any discomfort.

Give Him a Bath

Warm water can offer a lot of calming benefits. In the tub, add a few drops of lavender to help further him relax. The lavender oil may also assist in easing your tension. Thus, hop in the bath tub with your little one.

Back To The Grind

Hello my loves…

I know I’ve been so slack in updating this blog. It’s partly because I have become too busy juggling work with mommy and wife duties but mostly because I was lazy. It’s 2017 and just like that, it’s already February. How quick time flies, right? One day I was just preparing for our “media noche” (a thanksgiving meal on the eve of Dec 31 to welcome the New Year) and the next thing I know, one month has already passed. Where did January go?

For this year, I have decided to be more active with blogging. I was inspired by the mommy blogs that I follow and religiously check every day (psycho alert!!!). But I couldn’t help myself. I just got so hooked with these mommies and I feel like I will miss a lot if I don’t get to check their blogs daily. I know, I’m such a loyal fan. Anyway, just to feed your curiosity, these blogs are MommyFleur, Chuvaness and She Did It Anyway.

So I’m back to the grind and I will be more visible. There are a lot of backlog stories that I have not told you. I’ve been through the darkest moments of my life these past few months and I have seen better days too. I’m excited to make kuwento so watch out for more regular posts from me.

Signs Your Partner Is Falling Out Of Love

If you are in doubt that your partner is already falling out of love, chances are you are right. There are just so many telltale signs that will help you verify the issue at hand but I will give you the most obvious ones.

  • Lack of communication. If your conversation has become limited to “have you eaten”, “are the kids okay”, “what’s for dinner”, etc., and you don’t talk about yourselves or how your day went anymore, you are just a divorce waiting to happen. If you want to know whether your relationship is on the rocks, trust me, silence always means yes.
  • Taking you for granted. Do you feel like you’re invisible to your partner? You are physically present but for your partner, it seems that you aren’t. This is a sure sign that your existence doesn’t matter anymore. This is when you can say that love has gone cold and perhaps you have to “Let It Go” especially if the “cold” does bother you already.
  • Boredom. When things get boring, who would want to stay? If the relationship has gone boring, there is something wrong about it. Try to keep things fun between you and your partner but if you notice that he or she doesn’t want to make an effort to do so, don’t fret about it anymore. You can never force somebody to enjoy your company.
  • Love lost. This is the ultimate sign. If there are no more “I love you’s”, it’s time to pack up and leave. A relationship is not worth having or saving if there is no more love. Just go and find your happiness somewhere else.

I am not a relationship expert but these signs are guaranteed signals that your partner has gone cold and has fallen out of love.

Dealing With The Trying Times

Whoever said that life is easy surely has not lived yet. While life can be joyful, inspiring, fun, and hopeful; it can be sorrowful, depressing, and hopeless at the same time. There are always two sides to a coin. And at my age, I can say that I have already caught a glimpse of both sides.

How do you deal with the trying times? How do you face the other side?

A cheerful person like myself is often thought to be worry free. I somehow manage to flash a smile no matter what my situation is. But psychology says that people who laugh all the time are the saddest inside. I wonder if this is true to all. Yes I am sad at times. I feel disappointed many times. But I wonder if I am extremely sad deep down and I just don’t know it.

I am the type of person who choose to ignore the negatives. I choose to linger on the positives. The trying times can’t get the best of me. This is how I deal with it.

I came across a powerful message just now. It says “If you see the size of the blessing that’s coming, you will understand the magnitude of the battle you are fighting”. With everything that I am going through, I could just imagine the humongous blessing that is coming my way. I am hopeful.

How about you? How do you deal with trying times?

Keep hopeful my loves.

Patient Recruitment For Clinical Trials

Recently I came across a news site that published an article about patient recruitment in clinical trials. I know you might say this is a topic that is out of my league but the article got me curious. It detailed how challenging patient recruitment for clinical trials is. So as a response, I have written an article on how to somehow help pharmaceutical companies in patient recruitment. I know they have great researchers but this is from a standpoint of a regular person. Sometimes it is good to get ideas from regular people.

In the medical field, clinical trials are highly valuable. A vital aspect of a clinical trial is the patient. The patient’s participation plays a crucial role in the success of the research. This is how important patient recruitment is in every clinical trial. However, recruiting patients for the study is not as easy as it seems.

The Challenge In Patient Recruitment For Clinical Trials

The challenge with most clinical trials is the recruitment of patients. Firstly, not a lot of people are aware of clinical trials. This is due to the fact that they are not widely advertised. Patients also don’t usually talk about their experience to others. Secondly, there are people who are curious about clinical trials but they lack information. They may want to know if they are qualified but they couldn’t get the information that they need. Thirdly, some people want to try but are scared of something they are not familiar of. Fear of the unknown can sometimes hinder them from being patients. Lastly, some patients don’t finish the trials. They quit even before the trials are completed.

Strategies In Patient Recruitment For Clinical Trials

For companies conducting these trials, here are useful strategies that you should consider employing in order to successfully recruit qualified patients who can participate:

  • There are many ways to educate potential patients. With more active people online, there is no doubt that social media is one of the most effective venue. There are many forms of social media that you can use. By creating an informative video, infographic, or short advertisement about the clinical trial that you are doing, you can raise awareness and remove doubts about clinical trials. Make sure you have a clear call to action that people can respond to. The good thing about social media is they have a very broad reach.
  • A huge help in patient recruitment is local networking. Make your project visible to the community. This will not only help your project gain recognition but it will also make people become more familiar with it. With familiarity, fear is lessened.
  • Because you need the patients until the end of the trials, retention strategies are necessary. Make the experience worthwhile for the patients. Communication plays a vital role in retaining patients. Reasonable compensation is also required.

Patient recruitment for clinical trials is significant. These strategies will help companies in the recruitment process.

Christmas Songs With Instrumental Music

Happy 16th of December my loves…

December is synonymous to Christmas. At the onset of this month, you can hear Christmas songs everywhere, be it on the radio, television, and even online. These songs make the season alive. Once you start hearing them, you will feel that it’s already Christmas.

Most Christmas songs are timeless. We hear them every year and yet we don’t get tired of them.  Some of them are even older than us yet they are still enjoyed by today’s generation. They are passed on from generations to generations. Along the way, some modifications have been added, remixes are done, and different versions are introduced but the basics of the songs and their meaning remain the same.

With the internet available for a lot of people, Christmas songs download has become an option. Many people download Christmas songs which they can play over and over again. There are Christmas songs for kids and merry Christmas songs for all ages.

There are heaps of Christmas songs available for people to enjoy this season. Christmas songs download allows you to choose from a wide variety of songs. Some are merry Christmas songs and some are sentimental Christmas songs. There are also Christmas songs with instrumental music. The latter makes Christmas songs a perfect accompaniment for different activities and projects. They can also be played on their own.

If you don’t have a list of songs to play or music to use as accompaniment for your projects this season, you may want to consider the following Christmas songs with instrumental music:

This is one of the timeless songs of the season. It is the instrumental version of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”. The dominant instruments that you can hear in the song is the percussion instrument, glockenspiel, and the string instrument, harp. The method of playing the instruments, plucking, creates a soothing yet very festive effect that makes listening to it enjoyable. It sounded close to a lullaby in terms of the tempo and beat. This makes it perfect for kids and babies.

This instrumental music comes in four different versions which are slightly different from each other. The difference is mostly on the length, sound effects, and speed of the music. Some versions are shorter and faster than others. In terms of the sound effects, version 2 has a wind sound effect and version four has sledge crash sound effect. But the basic music is the same for all the four versions. Because of the sound effects, Merry Christmas Ident is perfect for making Christmas videos or animated greeting cards. If you want to put some effort in your videos and cards, personalizing the sound effects is a good idea. Merry Christmas Ident is a good choice.

The song we are all familiar with just became even more exciting to listen to. Jingle Bell acapella features an instrumental version of the song with a female acapella part. Acapella makes any musical piece extra special because of the effect of the human voice. There is also a part in the middle of the song that features just a beat box and the voice. It makes the song even more interesting. The beat of the song is fast which makes it perfect for the jolly season.

Who is not familiar with “Deck The Halls”? As little children, we have all sang this one way or another. Perhaps on a party or the traditional carol? Until now, this song is still sang by people of all generations all over the world. This version is symphonic and involves the harmonic combination of instruments such as bells, piano, and other string instruments. The rhythm is fast and perfect for presentations. It slows down a bit on other parts of the music and then comes back to its fast rhythm. The shift in tempo and rhythm removes the boredom in the music piece.

This is another instrumental version of the famous Christmas song, Deck The Halls. This time, it has a jazzy feel to it. You can almost feel your feet move to the beat and dance the season away. With this version, you can hear the different instruments such as guitar, ukulele, drums, and vibraphone. They create a harmonious combination of music that radiates a joyful tone. It is an upbeat version that can be used as a dance sound material or a sound background for upbeat parties.

“Happy Christmas Song” is one of the very popular songs for this season. The instrumental version of the song is as positive and upbeat as the original song except without the lyrics. The tempo is fast but there is a part in the music piece that it slows down a bit then gain acceleration again after a few seconds. Bells, guitar, drums, and piano are just some of the dominant instruments that you can hear throughout the piece. The way these instruments combine is perfect to create a truly “happy” song, in the literal sense of the word. It can be used as background for presentations and season’s videos.

If you are looking for a funky music for your Christmas song or music list, the “Christmas Song” instrumental music is for you. It is a clean piece with a normal beat – not too fast and not too slow as well. It uses different musical instruments and at some point, there is a part wherein not all involved instruments are used. This musical piece is good as a background music or played on its own to keep the spirit of Christmas alive in your home or office.

Christmas songs with instrumental music are widely available online. You can easily build a list of these instrumental songs and music through Christmas songs download. Because there is a wide variety of them online, you can be sure that you will find something that will suit your needs and preferences. Whatever your project is, you will surely find a good instrumental music that will fit the theme and the purpose of your project.

Christmas Countdown – For Kids Only?

When I was a kid, I always look forward to the “ber” months because they signify that the Christmas season is just around the corner. Christmas is the happiest time of the year for me. In fact, I enjoy it more than my birthday. I just feel that people are at their best during the Christmas season. Everyone seems to be trying so hard to be the nicest person in the whole planet.

As Christmas is nearly approaching, I come to realize that as we grow older, we tend to be more lax when it comes to the Christmas season. For a lot of adults I know, Christmas is just another day of the 365 days we have in a year. The excitement is no longer at its peak.

Well, this is not the case at home. My son is excited for all the gifts that he is surely going to get for Christmas. He is also excited for the food that seems to overflow during this season. More importantly, he is so excited to have the long awaited Christmas break from school. Come on, who doesn’t look forward to a long vacation? I surely did when I was a student. If you can see the excitement in my son’s eyes, you will be surprised at how such a little boy can contain that much excitement. He does the Christmas countdown every year – never fails.

But guess what? I am an adult and yet, I have the same level of excitement as my son. We don’t have the same things that we look forward to, but we’re both very excited for the Christmas season. While he is excited to receive gifts, I am excited to give him gifts. Parents can relate to me when I say that there is nothing more satisfying in this world than to see your child overflow with joy and happiness and you are part of it. While he is excited to binge, I am excited to cook. I plan my Christmas menu ahead of time. While he is excited to take a break from school, I am excited to spend time with him at home. Being a “work from home” mom, I am blessed that even though I have to work through the holidays, I still get to spend time with my son at home.

See? Christmas countdown is not just for kids. It is for everyone. It is for mommies like me too. So how many days more before Christmas? I am excited!
